"Stuck with a New Squad" is the eleventh episode in Season 3 of Stuck in the Middle and the forty-eighth overall. It first aired on April 13, 2018, to 0.88 million viewers.[1]
Summary[]
When Georgie fails to make the basketball team this year, Harley helps her cultivate a new passion instead.[2]
Plot[]
Georgie is so excited about the new basketball team roster that she joins Harley during the morning announcements in order to celebrate making the team. Unfortunately, she does not make the team. She is devastated. Even though she never scores, Georgie has worked so hard for this team. She is undeniably the most spirited. But now she's out.
To help Georgie move on, Harley asks Coach Heller to let Georgie be the mascot. Harley gives Georgie the mascot costume and convinces her to channel her team spirit by being the mascot. Unfortunately, during her first game as the mascot, Georgie is unable to wow the crowd. To save the mascot from embarrassment, Jo, the dance captain pulls the mascot to dance with them. Jo is so impressed by the mascot's dance that she asks her to join the dance team. Georgie nods "no" but Harley ignores her choice and signs up Georgie for the dance team. Georgie confronts Harley for not respecting her choice and pushing her outside her comfort zone.
During the next dance, Georgie freezes in front of the crowd; and then runs away. She tells Harley that she is comfortable dancing in her room when no one is watching, or dancing inside the mascot costume where no one can see her. But she can't dance in front of people staring at her. Harley solves the problem by inventing "Spectator Specs," a pair of special glances that digitally edit all the faces to look like Harley. That way, when Georgie is dancing, all she will see is a bunch of Harleys watching. That should be fine since Georgie is comfortable dancing in front of Harley.
The spectator glasses work perfectly before accidentally falling off during a dance. Georgie embarrasses herself when she starts crawling in an attempt to recover the glasses, while everyone else is dancing. To make things worse, one of the dancers steps on the glasses and destroys them. To shift focus from Georgie, Harley puts on the mascot costume head and starts dancing in front of everyone. Unfortunately, she loses control and ends up falling into banners, destroying them and embarrassing herself. It's at that point that Georgie realizes that she has to save Harley from all that embarrassment. She calls for the dance back on and dances like no one's watching.
Georgie embraces being part of the dance squad, without letting fear control her. Harley is proud that pushing Georgie out of her comfort zone resulted in something positive.
Meanwhile, Lewie and Beast are bummed because Tom randomly took Ethan and Daphne to Monster Truck Racing instead of them. Suzy tries to cheer them up by telling them that she can be just as fun as their dad. She lies to them that when she was young, she used to go by "Cyclone Suzy" because she was so much fun. The boys are skeptical because Suzy is the one who is usually telling them not to do their fun stuff. She's the Queen of Don't.
Suzy decides to fun with the twins just to prove that she can be fun. She unwittingly gets pulled into the twins' games and shenanigans. After running out of games to play, the boys ask Suzy to teach her some of Cyclone Suzy games. She is clueless. She starts collecting balls and putting them into a sled, hoping that she would get an inspiration. Unfortunately, she trips off, falls into the sled and sleds down the stairs, breaking the banister.
After crashing down, Suzy admits to the boys that she wasn't really Hurricane Suzy. She tells them that she is better at laying down the law than being fun breaking rules. Lewie and Beast agree that they need someone to enforce the rules because it's actually more fun to play their games behind Suzy's back.
